SMS While Driving - New Shock Campaign in the UK
With this in mind UK police created this shock campaign to show drivers (especially the young) the dangers of that practice.
I hope that the next time you are driving and thinking of using your mobile just stop for a while: dying and/or killing others just isn't worth it.
Stay safe.

I went to see 'Bruno'

I don't like crowded theaters so I went to the first session of the day, it was 2:05 PM and there I was. As I expected there were only 10 people in the room. After I came in the last three people(women) entered the room.
After the first five minutes of film when the gay sex stereotype really started to kick in those three women rapidly left the theater - They must have entered the wrong theater!
Then it came the break: as usual almost all people left the theater (to go to the bathroom or buy popcorn) but the amazing thing is that no one came back!
So I watched the rest of the movie with only two other women (mother and daughter, probably) with me.
When I stop to think about it I feel a bit sad that people think that some subjects (like homosexuality and religion) shouldn't be mocked of... as proved here in 'Bruno' and as it was in 'Dogma' these are some of the subjects that make open minded people laugh the most.
Unfortunately I can almost say that these 13 people represent the intolerant Portuguese society - only a few stand out from the swan.
I hope this movie can make a difference in favor of the gay community even though Bruno is nothing more that a stereotypical gay. Traditional people must start thinking that this community deserve equal rights.

Catholic mother suffocated her newborn baby out of shame

"A devout Roman Catholic who had not known she was pregnant killed her son within moments of giving birth alone.
Elizabeth Tevenan then bled to death after she was found by her mother in the bathroom of their home, an inquest heard yesterday.
The 30-year-old had been taking painkillers for acute back pain and had even looked on the NHS Direct website for information about ulcers and stomach cancer two days before she gave birth on November 13 last year."

I consider myself a Catholic with an open mind and in fact I think that while religion "gives" us comfort it is the reason of many evils because of the fundamentalism.
How mentally disturbed must this girl be to kill her own baby because she was afraid to tell her parents.
Of course the parents don't look good in this picture... how narrow minded they must be to teach their daughter like that.
I just imagine the awful things they must have said to her about having sex and getting pregnant.
It's not bad to give your child a religious background but don't be a fundamentalist - and remember it's better to tell your daughters about sex, birth control pills and condoms than taking them to an abortion clinic because they got pregnant.
Portugal - Bairrada => Big-Time Barbecue

This is from an article in 'The Wall Street Journal' about my homeland the Bairrada in Portugal and its culinary specialty the "Leitão à Bairrada"
"Most Portuguese towns are graced with monuments honoring local heroes. Mealhada is a bit different. There’s no stony faced navigator or dreamy bronze poet to greet visitors here. Instead, there’s a three-meter monolith topped with an oversized limestone piglet, its snout pointed skyward in an expression of civic pride in its inhabitants’ prowess in the arts of porcine cuisine."
